STANLEY ELWOOD KING EDINBURG - Stanley Elwood King, 83 died September 17, 2012, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. Mr. King was born in Ranger, West Virginia on January 7, 1929. Stanley was a Veteran of the US Army Air Forces (which later became the US Air Force in 1948) serving during World War II, the Korean War and also served as a military adviser during the Vietnam War. Stanley was a founder of the Veterans of Underage Military Service (Member # 12). Stan was the first appointed state commander of the newly organized Veterans of Underage Military Service and first State Commander. He owned a security alarm company in Arizona, California, and Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elwood King and Ruth Bates Powers; late wife Amalia; and son Shannon. Left to Cherish his memory is his wife of 12 years, Ruth of Ironton, Ohio; six children, Joy Northam, Lydia Ranier Stokes, Carolyn McLean, Shawn King, Kimberly Biddle, Patrick King; daughters-in-law, Nora and Sylvia Cantu; son-in-law, Eduardo Cantu, III; and numerous grandchildren. There will be a private graveside service at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria. Military honors will be conducted by Sgt. Benito Alaniz VFW Post 7473 of Elsa. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
