CECILIA THERESA LABUS
EDINBURG - Cecilia Theresa Labus, 89, entered eternal rest Friday, December 2, 2022, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
She was born in McCook on October 29, 1933, and was a descendant of the original settlers to Panna Maria, Texas. Her grandfather, Urban Kotzur, moved from the Panna Maria area to McCook in 1926 and started a farming community. Cecilia married Emil John Labus on February 9, 1954, and they moved to Edinburg.
Cecilia was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg, where she was a member of the Altar Society, and a supporter of St. Joseph School. She liked gardening, embroidery, and antiquing - especially depression glass. She truly enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking and camping at the national parks. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards and dominoes with friends
She is preceded in death by her husband, Emil John Labus; and her parents, Thomas and Eleanor Kotzur.
Cecilia is survived by her five children, Fr. Gregory Labus of Edinburg, Joni (Chuck) McDonald of Monte Alto, Joseph (Sharon) Labus, Cynthia (Blake) Brandt, Daniel Labus, all of Edinburg; nine grandchildren, Craig McDonald, Laura Gonzalez, Jennifer Floerke, Mark McDonald, Kaitlin Meloro, Sarah Labus, Christy Brandt, Allison Brandt, Calvin Brandt; four great-grandchildren, Gabriel Gonzalez IV, Henry Gonzalez, Mason McDonald, Emily Rose Floerke; a brother, Frank (Betty) Kotzur of McCook; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral mass will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Pallbearers will be Craig McDonald, Mark McDonald, Calvin Brandt, Raymond Labus Jr., Tom Kotzur, and Mike Kotzur. Honorary pallbearers are Gabriel Gonzalez III, Mike Meloro, Joseph Floerke, and George Jorge Gomez.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
