Bernardina "Grandma B" Leal

BERNARDINA B. "GRANDMA B" LEAL EDINBURG - Bernardina B. Leal, 92, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Arbor View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Edinburg. Mrs. Leal was born in Petronila, TX and had lived in Edinburg all of her life. Bernardina was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. She devoted her life to God and prayer. Everyone was always welcomed into her cozy kitchen for tamales and pan de polvo. Some of her past times included quilting, eating out, and playing bingo. "Grandma B" will be truly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Nicolas Leal; a son, Juan Leal; parents, Marcelo and Felipa Benavidez; a sister, Alicia Luera; a brother, Marcelo Benavidez, Jr. "Grandma B" is survived by four sons, Pedro (Rosa) Leal, Jose B. (Maria) Leal, Gilberto Leal, Oscar (Hilda) Leal, all of Edinburg; five daughters, Hortencia Leal of Edinburg, Raquel (+Jorge) Flores of San Manuel, Isaura (Ramiro) Cisneros, Norma (Jaime) Casares, both of Edinburg, Viola (Raul M.) Hinojosa of San Isidro; daughter-in-law, Norma P. Leal of Edinburg; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rodolfo Benavidez and Rene Benavidez, both of Edinburg; seven sisters, Guadalupe Dominguez, Gloria Castillo, both of Houston, TX, Trinidad Ruiz of Robstown, TX, Ramona Gonzalez, Felipa De La Garza, Leocadia Castillo, Petra Aguilar, all of Edinburg; and a sister-in-law, Cecilia Leal. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, March 22, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Miguel Aleman, MS Home Health Care, Ochoa's Pharmacy, and all the staff at Arbor View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
