Arturo Galván Leal
PHARR – Arturo Galván Leal, age 76, passed away at his home after a brief illness on Thursday, October 21st. The youngest of 12 was born on January 22, 1934 to Refugio and Maria Galván Leal in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Emma; daughters Rosa Emma (Ruben) Rodriguez of McAllen, Leticia (Robert) Adame of Pharr, Yolanda (Jose) Rodriguez of Miami, FL, Sylvia Galván of Dallas; four grandchildren, Gabriela Cristina Rodriguez, Gina Araceli Rodriguez, Roberto Arturo Alejandro Rodriguez of McAllen, and Andres Alexander Rodriguez of Miami, FL; two brothers, Felipe and Jose Luis Galván of Pharr, two sisters, Guadalupe Galván de Leal and Dora Galván de Ramirez of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and countless nieces and nephews.
Don Arturo, as he was affectionately known, was a long-time businessman/car salesman in Pharr who pioneered financing for those with little or no credit. He was a devout Catholic who instilled the love of God and the Virgin Mary in his family’s life with endless travels to many churches throughout Mexico and Europe. He relished spending time with family and friends, doting on his daughters and grandchildren, traveling, and tinkering with his garden, endless projects, and gadgets. Arturo was a very loving husband, caring father, ideal father-in-law, best grandfather and a loyal and good friend to all. He was a very compassionate man who was greatly admired for his unwavering generosity, advice, wisdom, and willingness to offer a helping hand. Arturo’s contagious laughter and ebullient personality will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The Galván family received family and friends on Friday, October 22nd at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral mass will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, October 23rd at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at PalmValley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
