LYDIA RAMIREZ LEAL PHARR — Lydia Ramirez Leal, 68, of Pharr, Texas, passed away gently on July 26, 2014, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital after a long struggle with kidney disease. Lydia was born in Pharr, Texas on November 1, 1945. She attended school in Pharr, Texas, and graduated from PSJA High School. After graduation she married Gilbert Leal and they settled in Pharr where they raised three boys. Lydia worked as a high school clerk most of her life until she retired. She enjoyed getting together with friends and family, playing Bingo, traveling, and quilting. Lydia leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Gilbert "Beto" Leal, of Pharr, Texas; three children, Gilbert Leal, Jr., of Pharr, Texas; Eduardo "Eddie" (Yesenia) Leal, of Alamo, Texas; Enrique "Kike" Leal of Pharr, Texas; and 4 grandchildren; Gilbert Leal III, Amy Nichol Leal, Ashley Elise Leal, and Edward Benjamin Leal; a brother, Edward (Cory) Ramirez, of Alamo, Texas, and many close friends and extended family. Lydia is preceded in death by her father, Cirilo Ramirez; her mother, Victoria Salinas Ramirez; and her sisters, Blanca Shawn, Anita Bass and Amelia Carmona. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, July 29, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Cemetery in Pharr. The family of Lydia Leal wishes to thank all of their relatives and close friends for their prayers and emotional support.
