DOROTHY A. LEIDNER EDINBURG – Dorothy Ann Rogers Leidner, 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 19, 2014. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Edinburg, TX. She married Thomas Gessner Leidner in 1953. This marriage of over 40 years produced 7 children. While raising her children, Dorothy attended Pan American University where she received a Bachelor's degree in Education. She later completed her Master's degree in Reading. Dorothy became a teacher in the late 60’s, and began her 30-year teaching career at St. Joseph Catholic School in Edinburg as a kindergarten teacher. She continued her teaching career at Monte Alto School. Loving children and working tirelessly to educate them was a passion of hers. Dorothy was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She overcame numerous health problems with a sense of humor and strength, always an inspiration to others. A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg, having served in the St. Joseph Altar Society, the Fall Festival Committee and the Church Advisory Board. She also was a volunteer in the St. Joseph PTA and the Edinburg Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Perhaps her most memorable attributes were her contagious smile and sense of humor, which she shared with those around her. Family and friends gravitated towards Dorothy and left with a lasting impression. She was most content when she participated in family gatherings. She loved playing dominoes, traveling, the Leakey Family Reunion, and her Shopafrolic Weekends with the girls. She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of the many friends and family she leaves behind. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Leidner; a grandson, Mark C. Fluitt; her parents, William and Mary Rogers; a brother, Donald Rogers; and a sister, Marilyn Gilmore.
