SOCORRO ALVARADO LIZARRAGA PHARR - Socorro Alvarado Lizarraga was born October 02, 1925 in Lerdo, Durango, Mexico and passed away November 8, 2014 in Pharr, Texas. She came to the United States in the 1950’s and after an extensive stay in Coachella, California she came to reside in McAllen in 1972. She moved to Pharr in 1974 and made that her home for the remainder of her life. Socorro lived a life devoted to her family. She was a fiercely determined provider and loving mother to all. She will always be remembered for selflessly extending a helping hand to any in need. Her favorite pastimes were tending to her garden every morning, skillfully sewing her family’s clothes, cooking, and baking. She took great joy in sharing her meals and baked goods with her family, neighbors, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Alvarado and Estanislada Garcia; four children, Maria Luisa, Rosario, Regino, and Javier; and four siblings, Maria Del Refugio, Francisca, Geronima, and Otilia. She died of natural causes at home, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her sister, Rogelia; five children, Leticia (Tom Garcia) Lizarraga, Maricela Lizarraga, both of McAllen, Victor Manuel Alvarado of Pharr, Ricardo (Doris Ramos) Alvarado of El Paso, Texas and Lorenia Elizabeth Rangel of Lafayette, Indiana. She found great joy in her grandchildren, Erika Beatriz Garcia of Uvalde, Texas, Hector David Garcia of San Antonio, Texas, Cesar Aaron and Dorinda Alvarado of El Paso, Texas, Emilio, Felicia, and Antonio Zapata of Lafayette, Indiana; numerous great-grandchildren, both in the United States and Mexico; her extended family, the Pinales, Martinez, Hernandez, and Alvarado family, of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. A special thanks to: her caregivers and special friends, Consuelo and Gabriella, the staff of Renaissance Hospice & Palliative Care, especially Celia, Nancy, Kristine, and Oscar who gave selflessly of themselves to care for Socorro. The family wishes to thank the numerous friends and neighbors for their well wishes, prayers and support. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
