ROEL LIZCANO PHARR — Roel Lizcano, 72, of Pharr, died Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen surrounded by his family. Born November 8, 1939, in Monterrey, Mexico, he was the son of the late Rodolfo Lizcano and Hortencia Lizcano. He is preceded in death by his father, Pastor Rodolfo Lizcano; mother, Hortencia Lizcano; sister, Alicia Banda; and brother, Rodolfo Lizcano Jr. Mr. Lizcano is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ofelia Lizcano; along with three children, Rebecca (Felipe) Gazca, Roel Lizcano Jr., and Robert (Belinda) Lizcano, all of Pharr; five grandchildren, Phillip Michael Gazca, Pamela Michelle Gazca, Robert Andrew Lizcano, Patrick Matthew Gazca, and Megan Alyssa Lizcano; four brothers, Ruben and Mario Lizcano, both of Pharr, Rene Lizcano, of Sharyland, Ramiro Lizcano, of Rogers, Arkansas; and three sisters, Rosalva Lopez, of Del Rio, Ruth Lizcano, of Alvin, and Raquel Lizcano, of San Antonio. Roel was the owner and operator of Lizcano Building Products and Lizcano Apartments for more than 40 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working on his ranch. Roel proudly served his nation in the U.S. National Guard for 17 years. He also served on the PSJA School Board for nine years and served his community as Pharr City Commissioner, Bridge Board Member, Pharr Youth Baseball League member, and other committees when called upon. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, September 4, 2012, and from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Pallbearers will be his three grandsons, Patrick Matthew Gazca, Phillip Michael Garzca, Robert Andrew Lizcano, and Rick Lizcano, Mario Lizcano, Jesse Saldana, Ruben Lizcano Jr., Idelfonso Ruiz. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
