ALBERTO LOPEZ EDINBURG – Alberto Lopez, 94, died Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. Alberto was born May 18, 1920 in Lopeño, TX, and moved to Edinburg around 1947. He served honorably in World War II as Army Private First Class, 63rd Infantry Division, 826th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a businessman and carpenter who enjoyed nature, landscaping and spending time with his beloved family. He will be dearly missed for his great sense of humor and wry wit. He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Ramona Lopez. Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Matilde Lopez of Edinburg; four sons, Alberto (Maria) Lopez, Jr. of Mission, Ismael (Valerie) Lopez, Humberto (Esmer) Lopez, both of Edinburg, Antonio (Maria) Lopez of McAllen; five daughters, Gloria Lopez, Hilda (Genaro) Benavidez, Diana Lopez, all of Edinburg, Alma Lopez of San Juan, Dora (Frank) Rodriguez of San Antonio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, December 16, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Military honors will be conducted by Sgt. Benito Alaniz VFW Post 7473 of Elsa. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
