PONCIANO LOPEZ CANTU
EDINBURG - Ponciano Lopez Cantu passed away to be with our Lord at the age of 74 Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Harlingen Medical Center.
Mr. Cantu was born March 3, 1941 in Edinburg and had lived there all of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Dionicio Cantu, Sr.
Ponciano is survived by his wife, Mary R. Cantu; four children, John Paul (Veronica) Cantu of Sharyland, Elizabeth (Oscar) Barrera of Edinburg, Stephen Anthony (Maria D.) Cantu of Houston, Stephanie Ann Cantu of Edinburg; five grandchildren, Kayla Cantu, Claire Cantu, Sylvia Barrera, Sarah Barrera, Isabella Barrera; a brother, Dionicio (Eulogia) Cantu, Jr.; four sisters, Ernestina Cantu, Diana (Alcadio) Luna, Maria (Lazaro) Cuellar and Dominga (Luis) Zepeda. He graduated from Edinburg High School and attended Pan American College. Ponciano was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. In 1991 he was employed with the Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office under District Attorney, Rene Guerra up until his retirement in February of 2015. Ponciano was well respected and loved by many. He will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, November 22, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
