George L. Lopez

GEORGE L. LOPEZ EDINBURG – George L. Lopez, 57, died Saturday, September 21, 2013, at McAllen Medical Center. Born in Mexico, Mr. Lopez had lived in Joliet, Illinois most of his life. He moved to Edinburg 12 years ago with his wife Margarita. He attended college at Milliken University in Decatur IL. He was a dedicated teacher, coach, and friend to all his students for over 30 years. Mr. Lopez taught at Morris Middle School in McAllen until he retired last year. He is preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Ruiz. Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Margarita Lopez, of Edinburg; two children, George Lopez and Maria Guadalupe Lopez, both of Joliet, Illinois; numerous grandchildren; and four siblings, Luis Lopez, of Mexico, Oscar Ruiz, Regina Hernandez, and Theresa Martinez, all of Chicago, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, September 23, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Cremation will take place at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
