SAN JUAN - Petra A. Lopez passed away on March 13, 2010 surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was born June 2, 1929 to Juan and Antonia Alejos in Edinburg, Texas. In 1949, she married the late Ernesto Lopez. They lived in Edinburg before moving to San Juan where they made their home and raised ten children.
Mrs. Petra Lopez was an active member of Esperanza Adult Day Center. She was also a member of St. John’s Catholic Church where she and her friends would perform rosaries for neighbors and friends in time of need. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, long walks, as well as spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernesto Lopez Sr. and two of her sons, Eduardo Rey and Ernesto Lopez Jr.
Mrs. Lopez is survived by eight children, Jose Luis (Amparo) Lopez, of Angleton, Maria Elena (Rodolfo) Castillo, of Houston, Eusebio Pedro (Elva Rincones) Lopez, of Temple, Celia (Ramon) Gonzalez, of Edinburg, Roberto Lopez, of Emporia, Kansas, Norma Linda (Raul) Donova, Manuel Hector (Norma) Lopez, both of San Juan and Rosa Alma (Richard) Santoscoy, of Longview; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers; and a sister.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, March 14, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 am Monday, March 15, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
