Gabriel Lozano Jr.

October 5, 1933 — March 12, 2014

GABRIEL LOZANO, JR. EDINBURG - Gabriel Lozano, Jr., 80, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Lozano was born in Corpus Christi, TX and had lived there most of his life. In 1953, he joined the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper; he also trained recruits, shortly after Gabriel married Josie Falcon in September 1953. He left the service in 1956 and was with the National Guard for six years. Gabriel enjoyed playing golf and was proud of winning 1st place in his flite. He won two green jackets in the PGA. Gabe was the owner of Lozano Insurance Agency for 43 years. He would hunt as often as he could, mostly because it allowed him to sit in the blind with his son. Gabriel loved to dance and listen to his wife sing. Josie always said that that's why she dated him in the first place; he was a great dancer. He would often sneak his grandchildren out to Whataburger before the sun came out, letting them have vanilla shakes if that was what they wanted. He loved to joke and play with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he never lost that child-like outlook on life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gabe and Juanita Lozano, Sr.; and a brother, Robert Lozano. Gabriel is survived by his loving wife, Josie F. Lozano of Edinburg; five children, Mona (Gerardo) Mora, Gabe (Juanita) Lozano, III, both of Edinburg, Lenny (Diana) Lozano of San Antonio, TX, Lena Solis of Corpus Christi, TX, Edie (Paul) Rossmeisl of Chatsworth, CA; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Imelda (Eddie) Garcia of Corpus Christi, TX; two brothers, David (Nora) Lozano of Corpus Christi, TX and Peter (Ninfa) Lozano of Houston, TX. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, March 14, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 12 noon Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
