Emma Gomez Luna, 87, went to meet her Savior on Monday, August 1, 2022 surrounded by family.
Emma was one of twelve children born to Lucio and Salome Gomez in San Juan, TX on October 1, 1934.
She attended PSJA schools graduating in 1953, where she was a member of the PSJA Bearettes Drill Team. In 1972, she married Rene Luna of San Juan, establishing their home in Progresso Lakes. It was there at the lake that the Gomez family spent many an Easter Sunday enjoying loteria, egg hunts (that included Tia Emma's money filled eggs), water balloon fights, and paddle boat rides.
Emma was a soft-spoken person who enjoyed attending family gatherings. She worked for 25 years with Weslaco ISD until her retirement. After retirement she moved to San Juan to be closer to family. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time at the casinos, playing loteria with family, going to Bingo and working on her crossword puzzles.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years Rene; four brothers, Lucio Jr., Homero, Baldomero and Marcos Gomez; three sisters, Connie Arcaute, Josefa Suarez and Heriberta Quintanilla.
Mrs. Luna is survived by her brother, Ciro Gomez of Edinburg; three sisters, Oralia Martinez of Monterrey, Ella Gonzalez of Mission and Delia Alaniz of San Juan; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary, Monday, August 8, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
