FRANCISCO LUNA, SR. EDINBURG - Francisco Luna, Sr., 92, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at his residence in Edinburg, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, Mr. Luna had lived in Indiana for about 33 years. After retiring from Inland Steel he moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1976. Francisco was the last surviving member of the German Luna family. He is preceded in death by his parents, German and Basilia Luna; four siblings, Cruz Luna, Modesto Luna, Felix Luna, Genoveva Luna. Francisco is survived by his wife of 68 years, Aurora Luna of Edinburg; five children, Frank (Anna De Leon) Luna, Jr. of Mission, Genny (†Joseph) Mendoza of Munster, Indiana, Eduardo (Irene) Luna of McAllen, Birdy (Tony) Vela of Mission, Sylvia Trejo (Jimmy) Arteaga of Edinburg; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, October 16, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Pallbearers will be Tony Vela, Jr., Michael Vela, Matthew Vela, Rolando Trejo, Jr., Joshua Luna, Xavier Luna. Honorary pallbearers, Michael Mejia, Charles Murray, Willie Hernandez. The Luna family would like to give special thanks to the hospice caregivers, Laura Garcia, Mary Garza, Jerry Rios, Paula Garcia and Sylvia Montalvo. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
