JUAN LUNA, Jr.
EDINBURG – Juan Luna, Jr., 76, passes away Thursday, November 12, 2009, at
his residence in Edinburg. After living a virtuous life, he has finally
conceded his battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Luna was born in Tacubaya Ranch, Brooks County, Texas and had lived in
Edinburg for most of his life. He graduated from P.S.J.A. High School and
served in the United States Army for two years, honorably discharged in
1957. After his discharge from the Army, Juan married Lucinda Gonzalez
Luna. Juan spent his childhood working on farms and ranches around the
Hidalgo, Books, and Jim Hogg Counties. During his lifetime, Juan worked in
several places including the Hidalgo County Irrigation District, the
United States Department of Agriculture (La Mosca), Right Away Foods, and
prior to retirement, at the 50 Off Store. He was commited to his
responsibilities and took pride in his work; he received several
recognition awards for superior performance. He also served his community
by volunteering at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and at one time, served
as president of the Altar Society.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Maria Luna Jr.; and his
father and mother in-law, Lucas and Elena Gonzalez.
Mr. Luna is survived by his wife, Lucinda Luna of McAllen; five daughters,
Albesa Luna, Maria Guadalupe Luna, Maria Elena (Mario) Cortez and Monika
(Neri Vela) Luna all of Edinburg, and Thelma (Jaime) Saldana of McAllen; a
son, Juan (Marcela) Luna III of Weslaco; 12 grandchildren, Raul Dominic
Cantu, Angela Leal, Randee Beglin, Laura Lopez, Kendra Garza, Adrian
Garza, Eric Cantu, Aaron Garza, Kaylee Luna, Samantha Cortez, Jordan and
Evan Vela; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Micaela Gamboa,
Victorina Luna, Olivia Trejo and Maria Delfa Luna.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today,
November 13, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in
Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009,
at Scared Heart Catholic Church Edinburg. Interment will follow at
Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Military honors will be conducted by
VFW Post #8788 of McAllen.
Pallbearers will be Raul Dominic, Eric Matthew Cantu, Adrian Garza, Aaron
Garza, Romeo Luna and Gilberto Trejo. Honorary pallbearers will be his
godsons.
Juan will be remembered for tenacity, perseverance, and undying spirit. He
never complained about any obstacles or situations; he only dealt with
them directly. For all his dedication, work, and caring acts, Juan, the
Luna family patriarch, will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in
Edinburg.
