SAN JUAN - Rebecca H. Luna, 69, returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 31, 2011, surrounded by her family, at her daughter and son-in-law's home in San Antonio after a valiant and courageous battle with an extended illness and with the special, loving care of hospice nurse Pamela Amos.
Mrs. Luna was born August 20, 1941 at Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico to Antonio and Pragedis de Hoyos. She grew up in Southwest Texas and later moved to the Rio Grande Valley (San Juan) where she and her husband raised their six children.
Mrs. Luna enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing and being with her family and friends; she always extended genuine hospitality and always was the joy of the party.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Pragedis de Hoyos; and two brothers, Clemente and Homer de Hoyos.
Mrs. Luna is survived by her husband, Leonides Luna, three sons, Leonel (Michelle) Luna, of Irrigon, Oregon, Julian (Cristela) Luna, of San Juan, Texas, Gilberto Luna, of Houston, Texas; four daughters, Rosalinda de Hoyos, of Moultrie, Georgia, Norma (Leon) Luna-Lopez, of San Antonio, Texas, Dianabeda (Jayson) Luna-Meline, of Pocatello, Idaho, Mary Isabel (Pete) Delgado, of Hermiston, Oregon; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arturo de Hoyos; and a sister, Olga, as well as many relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm prayer service today, August 2, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 2 pm Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
