Adan "Y" Maldonado Mr. Sr.

ADAN "MR. Y" MALDONADO, SR. EDINBURG - Adan "Mr. Y" Maldonado Sr., 72, was called to be with the Lord Friday, February 21, 2014, at LifeCare Hospital in McAllen. He was born in Edinburg and had lived there all of his life. Mr. Maldonado was the owner of Y Enterprises and a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos and the Edinburg Citrus Association. He was very active with the Catholic church and would willingly sponsor any event the church would have. Adan, also known as Mr. Y, was a migrant worker at a young age and always asked himself, "Is this the life I am going to have for the rest of my life?" With a third grade education, Adan continued working for a successful life. He began to work for a company named Rightaway Food Services where he was sent to get certified to work on refrigeration. Adan worked there for many years until he opened a small convenience store called the Y Drive Inn where he and his wife, Lydia, worked day in and day out. After successfully running the store, he built an apartment complex next door called the Y Apartments and his business began to grow. He then opened a laundromat called the Y Washateria; a carwash, the Y Carwash; and a propane company, Y Propane, which is now American Propane Inc. Mr. Maldonado enjoyed being outdoors and had many orange groves that he loved to visit every day. He was a people person who loved to converse with anyone and was was a well-known man with many friends who everybody knew for his kindness. Adan loved his family and friends very much. He always taught his children to work hard and his grandchildren were his greatest joy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Baleria Maldonado; three brothers, Eliberto, Reynaldo and Rene Maldonado; and a sister, Celia Maldonado. Mr. Maldonado is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lydia R. Maldonado; five children, Gloria (Ricardo) Lozano, Arnold (Patricia) Maldonado, Adan (Norma) Maldonado Jr., Michele (Jacinto) Briseño, Albert Maldonado; a former daughter-in-law, Leticia Garcia; all of Edinburg; 16 grandchildren, Joshua, Kayla, Toby, Andre, Arnold Adan, Andrea, Ariana, Cristian, Clarissa, Ayissa, Javier, Jerry, JJ, Zachary, Isabella and AJ; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Santos Maldonado Sr., Crisoforo Maldonado, Enrique Maldonado, all of Edinburg, Noe Maldonado, of Elsa; and his mother-in-law, Maria Diaz Rodriguez, of Edinburg. On behalf of the Maldonado Family, we want to give special thanks to Dr. Koolwal, Dr. Palimar, Dr. Mangi and LifeCare Hospitals and staff. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, February 23, 2014, and from 1 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, February 24, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
