ARTURO MALDONADO, Sr. EDINBURG - Arturo Maldonado, Sr., 82, began his journey into eternal life to be with The Lord on Tuesday September3, 2013. He was born on August 6, 1931 in Weslaco, Texas. After marrying the love of his life Paula Alonzo in 1952, they lived in Edinburg, Texas where they raised their family. He worked for Northern Pacific Railroad, SP&S RailRoad and Union Pacific Railroad for brief periods before beginning his career with Southern Pacific Railroad for 31 1/2 years as a labor driver. At the time of his retirement in July 1993, he was ranked number one in seniority in South Texas. His favorite pastimes were watching old movies, especially cowboy ones, boxing matches, football, baseball, and basketball games. He loved going to watch his grandchildren play sports and looked forward to spending time at the beach every summer. He never missed his daily routine of watching the evening novelas with his wife, eldest son, Art Jr. and his dog Chico. Mr. Maldonado is preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Maria Maldonado; a brother, Santos "Balde" Maldonado. Arturo is survived by his wife, Paula A. Maldonado of Edinburg; three sons, Arturo Maldonado, Jr., Ricardo (Pam) Maldonado, both of Edinburg, Jaime Rene (Jennifer) Maldonado of San Antonio; three daughters, Sylvia (Shane) Cameron of McAllen, Norma (J. Humberto) Rodriguez of Edinburg, Cynthia (Jack) Arnold of Pharr; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, September 5, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
