EDINBURG – July 5, 1932 – September 7, 2018. Santos Maldonado, Sr., 86, entered the gates of heaven Friday, September 7, 2018, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg.
He was born on July 5, 1932, to Enrique and Baleria S. Maldonado in Edinburg where he lived all of his life. As a young man, Santos helped his father as a farmer where he grew to love and developed the passion for farming. Farming became a big part of his life and he continued that passion by farming his own land until the age of 83. In 1961, he was employed at Right Away Foods in San Carlos, Texas, where he worked for 20 years as a plant supervisor. Although he had only gone to the 8th grade, he later received his GED and obtained his refrigeration license in 1963. His experience at Right Away Foods led to his starting his own business of Maldonado’s Refrigeration. His reputation for patience and meticulous work made his business a success in the Field of Commercial Refrigeration. In 1948, he saw and fell in love with the love of his life, Diorica. They married in 1951 and were married for 67 blessed years. They never left each other’s side and were truly inseparable. Santos was a religious and devoted family man. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in San Carlos, Texas. He loved visiting with his family and friends, especially his elderly aunts and uncles. He will be greatly missed by all his relatives and friends. His family will always remember him as a truly devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
