RALPH E. MARTIN

EDINBURG — Ralph E. Martin, 62, entered eternal rest on Monday, May 31, 2010, at McAllen Medical Center.

Mr. Martin was born in Albany, Georgia and had lived in Edinburg most of his life. Mr. Martin was the son of late Dr. Walter and Mrs. Catherine Dairing Martin Jr. He served in U.S. Army for 8 years in Korea and Germany and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pan American University in 1978. Mr. Martin owned Martin Mobile Service for 20 years and Alma’s One Stop grocery store in Edinburg for four years. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church in Edinburg.

He is preceded in death by his two bothers-in-law, E. Howard Hunt and Robert M. Silvia.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Alma L. Martin of Edinburg; his brothers, Walter D. (Pam) Martin III of Yardley, Pennsylvania and his twin brother, John F. (Nancy) Martin of Jacksonville, Alabama; two sisters, Laura M. Hunt of Miami, Florida and Catherine M. Silvia of Bushnell, Florida; four nieces, Haley, Heather, Laura and Hollis; four nephew, Austin, Forrest, Chase and Alexander; and his aunt, Martha E. Martin of Ocala, Florida.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, June 3, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at Harvest Baptist Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
