Rita Martinez Acevedo, 67 at the time of her passing, departed into the splendor of the Lord with her family by her side on January 16, 2018, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
She was a selfless woman of impeccable character and a boundless belief in God. With the sole responsibility of raising her family thrust upon her, Rita did not shy away from her duties as a mother and assumed the role with the utmost grace and dignity. In time, each of her children earned college degrees and gave rise to families of their own, ensuring the enduring nature of her legacy.
Ms. Acevedo is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Eduarda Martinez.
Having dedicated her life to the service of her family, Ms. Acevedo’s children were as much her world as she was theirs. She is survived by her five children, Margarita (Leonel) Cepeda, Sonia (Oscar II) Lopez, both residents of McAllen, Raul (Arely) Acevedo Jr. of Mission, Roberto (Annais Gutierrez) Acevedo of McAllen, and Karina (Sergio) Leal of Brownsville. Also surviving her are her nine grandchildren, Oscar III, Caroline, Sergio, Diego, Kaitlyn, Rita Marie, Mateo, Katherine, Valeria; two brothers, Jesus (Maria Elena) Martinez, Manuel (Norma) Martinez, both of Hidalgo, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Though she will be dearly missed by her family and friends in ways beyond contemplation, we trust that she has been finally delivered from all pain and is now at peace with her Lord and Savior.
