GLORIA V. MARTINEZ EDINBURG - Gloria Martinez, 84, died Friday, January 16, 2015 in San Juan, TX. Born in Falfurrias, Mrs. Martinez had lived in Edinburg most of her life and was an active member of El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church in Edinburg. Gloria was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and baking. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Martinez; her parents, Indalecio and Josefina Vela; and a brother, Hector Vela. Gloria is survived by seven children, Samuel E. (Pam) Martinez of Harlingen, Sylvia (Graciano) Araguz of San Antonio, TX, Anna (Julian) Vega of San Juan, TX, Nora (Stephen) Neck, Felipe Gerardo "Jerry" Martinez, both of Edinburg, Juan Martinez of McAllen, Jose David Martinez of Edinburg; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sara Cantu and Maria Elena Garza; three brothers, Indalecio Vela, Alvaro Vela, Jose Vela. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Sunday, January 18, 2015, at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015, at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers; Daniel Reyes will serve as honorary pallbearer. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
