HORTENCIA MARTINEZ SAN JUAN – Hortencia Martinez, 82, loving mother, grandmother and great-grammy passed away, Friday, March 14, 2014, with her family at her side. She was born in Donna and had lived in San Juan most of her life. She loved gardening, swimming at Padre, her birds, gambling and especially bingo. Tencha has reunited with her husband, Arturo Martinez; parents, Dolores and Salomon Perez; and a sister, Lupe Martinez. Hortencia is survived by her five children, Lora (Armando) [Beverly, Reena] Briones of Edinburg, Edwardo (Elizabeth) [Linda, Eddie, Daniel] Martinez of San Juan, Lucina (John) [Stephanie, Stacy, Samantha] Kuta of McAllen, Jaime Martinez [Kristeen] of Austin, TX., and Jorge (Dr. Guadalupe Davila) [Jennifer, Joseph, Arnie] Martinez of Harlingen; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Victoria Avila, Irma Perez; four brothers, Daniel, Santos, Arturo, and Johnny Perez all of California. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, March 17, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Special thanks to all the nurses from IPH Home Health and Amara Hospice Inpatient Care Center. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
