Minerva De Los Santos Martinez San Juan - Minerva De los Santos Martinez, 84, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at San Juan Nursing Home. She was born on October 5, 1928, in San Juan, Texas to Gila Rodriguez De los Santos and Pedro De los Santos, and lived in San Juan most of her life. Minerva was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cruz; her sons, Jose Luis and Robert; a grandson, Justen Martinez; three brothers; and two sisters. Minerva is survived by her daughters, Gloria (+Frank) Obregon of San Juan, Carmen (+Alfredo) Acevedo of Edinburg, Blanca (John) Houston of Austin, Corina (Loren) Lohrman of Colorado, Anita Vargas of San Juan; two sons, Francisco (Elva) of Pharr, Hector (Eva) of Edinburg; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as Memo; a brother Baldemar De los Santos of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Sixto (Ruby) Cantu of Mississippi. Minerva was a proud hard worker; she worked most of her life at Crest Fruit Company of Alamo for many years, where she was respectfully known as Doña Mine. She was able to trace her family ancestry to Spain and the Spanish land grants. Later in life, she was able to travel all over the United States, which she enjoyed very much. Minerva was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She was the matriarch of her family, was a very good cook and loved taking care of her plants. Minerva always looked forward to the holidays when her children would gather around her and spend quality time. Minerva's family is appreciative of the entire staff at San Juan Nursing Home, and Dr. Manuel Mercado for the care and support given to her during the last years of her life; we thank you. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, August 23, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alex, Angel, Abraham Acevedo, Fred Rodriguez, Robert Ramirez, and Loren Lohrman. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
