PHARR – Rodrigo Martinez Sr., 83, died Saturday, August 19, 2017, at his residence in Pharr.
Rodrigo lived a long and full life. As a very young man he started working at the age of 12 to help support his siblings. Throughout his life he worked at many different jobs, including working in canning companies, as a migrant farm worker, in construction, as a truck driver and was an owner of rental properties. He lived in different parts of the country but he always came back to his roots in the Rio Grande Valley. He loved his horses and ranch life and always had three or four horses in his possession. Most of all he loved his family and was always there to help with anything they needed. He was extremely proud of all his children. Rodrigo Martinez will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Paulita Martinez; and four siblings, Maria Garza, Florinda Balderas, Carlos Martinez and Javier Martinez.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Dora M. Martinez of Pharr; their children, Hermelinda (Reynol ) Garza and Eddie (Marla) Martinez, both of Pharr, three children from a previous marriage, Rodrigo (Rosario G.) Martinez Jr. of Edinburg, Rosalva (Richard A.) Longoria of McAllen, Rodolfo (Norma Linda) Martinez of Pharr; nine grandchildren, Vanessa, Richard, Robert, Rodrigo, Rodolfo Jr., Alex, Rebecca, Madonna, Jennifer; four great-grandchildren, Eva, Rodolfo III, Lucia, Rodrigo Jr.; and four siblings, Dora Silva, Rodolfo Martinez, both of Pharr, Florencia Mora, Nora Villarreal, both of San Juan.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service Monday, August 21, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Hom
