VELVA R. MEJIA EDINBURG - Velva R. Mejia, 89, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Born in Ramirito Ranch, Mrs. Mejia had lived in Edinburg most of her life. Velva was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Her greatest pride and joy was that all of her grandchildren have become well educated and successful. Velva is preceded in death by her husband, Leonel Mejia, Sr.; parents, Benjamin Ramirez and Virginia Saenz; a brother, Lorenzo Hinojosa; two sisters, Velsa Muniz and Viola Cortez. She is survived by four children, Leonel (Anna) Mejia, Jr. of McAllen, Baldemar (Gracie) Mejia of Houston, TX, Lauro (Rita) Mejia of Leaque City, TX, Velva (Michael) Sanchez of Edinburg; seven grandchildren, Leonel David (Angela) Mejia, Baldemar (Kellie) Mejia, Jr., Max (Pamela) Mejia, Michael Mejia, Kevin Sanchez, Vanessa Sanchez, Melina Sanchez; three great-granchildren, Jessie, London, and Vivian. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, March 5, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Pallbearers will be her five grandsons and one great-grandson. Honorary pallbearers will be her two granddaughters. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
