Jesse Mena

November 12, 2005 — December 9, 2014

JESSE MENA DONNA - Jesse Mena was granted his angel wings at the age of 9, on December 9, 2014, following an unfortunate crossing of paths with cancer two years prior. For many, Jesse’s life would seem too short, but to those who were touched by him now have an understanding that the value of existence far surpasses the quantity of time in which one lives. Not only was Jesse a loving son, but also a brother, cousin, grandchild, and friend to many. Even to the greatest skeptic of all, his courage was convincing enough to make one believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. For those of you who had the opportunity of being in his presence, even for the briefest of moments, can attest that his smile, loving and caring personality were infectious. God was gracious when he granted him with a heart that could love like he did, from strangers to his beloved animals. As a third grader at Munoz Elementary, his imagination ran just as wild as his spirit. He always came in first place when it came to racing his toy cars on his own version of the Indy 500 track. Jesse was also the sneakiest brother around when it came to hiding from his sisters, Isabella and Damaris. The most prominent of activities came alongside his brother, Damian. Both sat with eyes fixed on TV wrestling, ensuring their daily dose of John Cena, pro wrestler. It’s safe to say that his passion was fishing out at South Padre Island with his family. Coincidence or not, God promises you in Isaiah 43:2 that when you go through deep waters and great trouble, He will be with you. The death of Jesse means the loss of more than just a treasurable life. It signifies the loss of future experiences and future hopes. With his passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated and mimicked. Although we will miss him every day, especially his endearing smile, he will continually remain in our hearts. Through his attitude on life, we were privileged enough to create heartfelt and everlasting memories. There is no doubt that Jesse was young but he was compassionate, selfless, fighter, and a teacher to us all. He is forever, our little piece of Heaven. “But now my Sweet Child is an angel, free from hurt and pain, I'll love you forever, until we meet again” Jesse is survived by his loving parents Graciela Elizondo and Salvador Mena; his three siblings, Damian, Isabella and Damaris Mena; maternal grandparents, Guadalupe Ortiz and Abel Elizondo; and paternal grandparents, Antonio and Cruz Mena. Pallbearers will be Salvador Mena, Antonio Mena, David Flores, Isaias Elizondo, Isidoro Elizondo, Luis Mena, Abel Elizondo, and Sergio Mena. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm., with a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral Mass will be take place at 12:00 noon Friday, December 12, 2014, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at the Val Verde Memorial Garden in Donna.
