Pastor Robert Mendez

Pastor Robert Mendez McAllen - Pastor Robert Mendez, age 77, went on to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 5:55 a.m. at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kingsville, Texas Pastor Robert Mendez resided there for 10 years, then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1947. His profession at the time was specializing in precious gems and stones where he managed Zales jewelry store for over 13 years. He then was transferred to Laredo, Texas and resided there with his loving wife, Emily and his four children. He lived in Laredo over 20 years where he established his own jewelry store, "Loves Bonded Jewelers" also known as LBJ. In 1990, he moved to McAllen, Texas, where he was called into the full time ministry and was ordained at Abundant Grace Community Church by Pastor Jim Vinita. He faithfully served the Lord with his wife, Emily and his youngest daughter, Liza as a missionary in Reynosa, Mexico. He established "Iglesia Amor Agape Abundante Fe" church in Reynosa, Tamps. In addition, he served the Lord faithfully as a Board Member and Prayer Counselor at Abundant Grace Community Church for over 24 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anita Mendez; and two of his children, Michael Ray and Mara Lee Mendez. Pastor Robert Mendez is survived by his loving wife, Emily Mendez; his loving children, Robert Mendez Jr., Anita Jean Alvarado, Liza Hall; his sons in law, Brendan Hall III and Porfirio Alvarado; his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton Road in Edinburg, Texas. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Abundant Grace Community Church, 2110 South McColl Road, Edinburg, Texas. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
