April 24, 1934 — March 11, 2025

ALAMO- Minerva Cabrera passed away peacefully at the age of 90, in her childhood home surrounded by her family on March 11, 2025. She was born on April 24, 1934 in Charco, Texas. She grew up in Alamo, Texas with her family as a Migrant worker.

She is survived by her siblings, Antonia Munoz, and Jose (Hortencia) Cabrera, both of Plainview, Texas.

Mrs. Cabrera is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Luisa Cabrera; and five siblings, Eudelia Baez, Jesusa Solis, Luis Cabrera III, Francisca Escobedo, and Guadalupe Cabrera.

Minerva moved to Sterling, Illinois in 1967, where she resided with her niece Deann and Frank Martinez, with whom she mother’d all of her great nieces, great nephews, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren, as she biologically never had children of her own.

She worked for General Electric, and retired in June of 1996. She continued to help care for her great-grandchildren. In 2007, she moved to help care for Yvette Ochoa and her family. She later returned to Alamo, Texas where she continued to nurture her family and anyone who came to her door.

Mrs. Cabrera was known to all who met her to be the sweetest, kindest and most loving open-hearted woman. Her sense of humor and laughter was contagious. Everyone she met held a special place in her heart as she loved deeply.

Minerva was a faithful steward of God. She was very patriotic who supported her nieces and nephews who served. Her one true love will always be Elvis Presley, as she was his number one fan.
