Miriam Rios

Miriam Rios, 44, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023, at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg.

Miriam was a proud and dedicated teacher for the Edinburg School District for 18 years. In 2012 was named the Teacher of the Year for Anita Villarreal Elementary. Miriam loved mentoring new teachers and would always go above the call of duty for her students.

Miriam was also a devout Catholic and dedicated years to youth and young adult ministry at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg.

St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta once said “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” Miriam lived and breathed those words, every person who met her loved her. Every person who was educated or ministered by her left happier. The world will not be the same without her warm smile, contagious laugh, or words of wisdom.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Raul and Maria Rosales; paternal grandparents, Irineo and Luz Ramos.

Mrs. Rios is survived by her husband, James Rodney Rios; two children, Devin Rios and Madison Rios; parents, Rodrigo and Teresa Ramos; two siblings, Luz Maria Ramos, Rodrigo (Christie) Ramos Jr; niece, Emma Nicole Ramos; mother and father-in law, Reymundo and Alicia Rios; brothers-in-law, David Omar (Mary) Rios, Rey Rios Jr; sister-in-law, Jessica (Joey) Vera.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg.  Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg.  Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
