SAN CARLOS/EDINBURG - Mateo Moreno, 83, went home to our Lord Monday, September 25, 2017, at Amara Hospice Inpatient Facility in Edinburg.
Born in San Carlos, he lived there all of his life. Mateo was a lifetime member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos and a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was employed by the University of Texas Pan American for 17 years and retired in 1992. Mateo will be missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonides and Sofia Moreno; a son, Mateo Moreno Jr.; a brother, Dimas Moreno; and Justa R. Moreno.
Mr. Moreno is survived by four children, Irma (Mark) Murray of McAllen, Jesus (Sylvia) Moreno of La Blanca, Alicia (Reynaldo) Moreno-Buendia, Sylvia (Cornelio) Reyna, both of Edinburg; six grandchildren, Chrystale (Bryant) De La Cruz, Daniel Moreno, Mark Moreno, Jaclyn Cavazos, Ashley Reyna, Cassandra Reyna; two great-grandchildren, Jasson De La Cruz, Noe Jeremy Pena; six siblings, Juan Moreno, Florinda Perez, San Juanita Adame, Manuel Moreno, Francisco Moreno, Antonio Moreno.
Military honor to be conducted by VFW Post 7473 of Elsa.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
