JOSE GUADALUPE OCHOA
SAN JUAN – Jose Guadalupe Ochoa, 91, entered eternal rest on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. He was born on August 25, 1929 in Reynosa, Mexico to Juanita and Saturnino Ochoa.
From his humble beginnings at the age of 15 as a cabinet maker to building his own construction company, he always exhibited a strong work ethic and determination. He taught by example by overcoming life’s obstacles with grace and dignity. He would often tell his children, “I worked hard in the sun with a nail and hammer so that you could go to college and not work as hard as I do.” He succeeded in that his children and grandchildren have all excelled academically. He was devoted to his family and loved weekend barbeques, traveling, and listening to romantic Latin music which he called “la hora bohemia.” He brought us so much joy with his sense of humor and will be sorely missed.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Yadira “Judy” Ochoa Freeman; a brother, David Ochoa; and two sisters, Aurora Reyes and Margarita Quintanilla.
Mr. Ochoa is survived by his wife, Irma S. Ochoa of San Juan, TX; two sons, Jose (Ellie) Ochoa of San Antonio, TX and Efrain (Lisa) Ochoa of Ovilla, TX; a daughter, Irma (David) de la Fuente of Frisco, TX; two sisters, Amalia Rodriguez of San Antonio, TX and Juanita Villanueva of Reynosa, Mexico; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2021, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
