ALAMO – Julia Olivarez, 94, died peacefully surrounded by her family at her residence in Alamo on Friday, February 10, 2017.
Born in Rio Grande City, Mrs. Olivarez had lived in Alamo most of her life and was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Olivarez, Sr.; a son, Rene Olivarez; a daughter, Veronica Olivarez; a grandson, Rene “Randy” Olivarez, Jr.; her parents, Hilario and Antonia Garza; five sisters; and two brothers.
Mrs. Olivarez is survived by three daughters, Elia (Enrique) Olivares, Imelda (Jack) Carter, both of San Antonio, Nora (Arturo) Martinez of McAllen; two sons, Manuel (Kathy) Olivarez, Jr. of San Antonio and Humberto Olivarez of Zapata; 16 Grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Hilario Garza, Jr. of Dallas, Alfredo Garza of Alamo, Donaciano “Chano” Garza of San Juan; and three sisters, Hortencia Ortiz of Alamo, Maria Luisa Ortiz of San Juan and Teresa Garza of Alamo.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, February, 13, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral Service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February, 14, 2017, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alamo.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
