Olivia Montemayor, 88, entered eternal rest on Friday, January 10, 2025, at her residence in Edinburg surrounded by her five children and family. She was born on April 16, 1936. Ms. Montemayor was a lifelong resident of Edinburg and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Luis Davila and Lydia Garza Lopez; a son, Rodrigo Montemayor Jr.; a brother, Jose Luis Davila Jr.; a sister, Olga Macias; the father of her children, Rodrigo Montemayor; and three half-brothers, Rolando Davila, Dionicio Alcala, and Alonzo Davila.
Left to cherish her memory are the loves of her life, Graciela Gonzalez, Cristelia (Ramiro) Ramirez, Gustavo (Esther) Montemayor, Yolanda Diaz (Javian Molina), Ellie (David) Torres; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous half-brothers and half-sisters.
Olivia spent most of her childhood on a family-owned ranch in La Sara, Texas and eventually moved to Hargill. At a tender age, she learned the value of hard work, sacrifice and the love of family. For many years, she worked with the Hidalgo County Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, impacting many families in need. Olivia subsequently dedicated many years to serving as a paraprofessional for Edinburg CISD and volunteered many years as an Auxiliary for the Edinburg Hospital. She passionately dedicated numerous years working for local, state and federal elections as a poll worker or presiding judge, while simultaneously managing the family-owned business, Montemayor Septic Tanks. Olivia leaves a legacy of independence, strong work ethic and family values.
The Montemayor family is grateful for Magda Elizondo as her compassionate caregiver of three years. A special thanks to Irma Ruiz, South Texas Health Systems and SJ Hospice for their commitment to her care.
Olivia's grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Jose Gonzalez, Eloy Gonzalez Jr., Ramiro Ramirez Jr., Randy Ramirez, Joshua Montemayor, David Torres Jr., along with Gabriel Gonzalez and Javian Molina as honorary pallbearers.
