EDUARDO "EDDIE" ORTIZ EDINBURG - Eduardo "Eddie" Ortiz, 76, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Edinburg. Born in Cotulla, TX, Mr. Ortiz had lived in Edinburg all of his life. "Eddie" was a veteran of the US Army where he served proudly for four years during peacetime. Eduardo worked for the City of Edinburg for 30 years, last serving as the Bureau Chief of Utilities. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many. He is preceded in death by a son, Eduardo A. Ortiz; his parents, George and Petra Ortiz; two brothers, Eugenio E. Ortiz and Juan Carlos Ortiz; one sister, Maria Josepha (Martin) Ortiz. Eduardo is survived by his wife, Gregoria Ortiz of Edinburg; one son, George Mark (Sylvia Garcia) Ortiz; a grandson, Joel A. Ortiz; eight siblings, Petra O. (Cresencio) Aguilar, Hilaria O. (Urbano) Diaz, Trinidad (Doris) Ortiz, Catarina O. (Julian) De La Rosa, Felicita O. (Joel Jesus) Carrillo, Matilde O. (Timothy) Foster, Eduvigen O. (James) Thomas, Roberto (Suzanne) Ortiz. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, May 27, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg
