JOSEFINA ORTIZ
EDINBURG – Josefina Ortiz, 80, died Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Solara Hospital in Edinburg.
Born in Tivoli, Texas, Mrs. Ortiz was formerly from Edcouch and had lived in Edinburg for the past three years.
She is preceded in death by a son, Guillermo Ortiz; three sisters, Juanita Tamez, Calistra Silva, Maria Almaguer; a brother, Jesus Ortiz, and a granddaughter.
Ms. Ortiz is survived by six children, Cristina Ortiz, of Elsa, Linda (Mayo) Soto and Armando (Dolores) Ortiz, both of Edinburg, Maria Elena (Porfirio) Palacios, of San Antonio, Texas, Noelia Silva Cavazos, of Elsa, Raul (Leticia) Silva, of Fort Worth, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 1-great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Guadalupe Santana, of Montemorelos, Mexico.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, today, February 3, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at St. Teresa of The Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Edcouch. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. John G. Orfanos and the staff at Solara Hospital for the care given to Ms. Ortiz.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
