VIRGINIA METTLACH OXFORD MCALLEN - Virginia Mettlach Oxford, 75, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 11, 2013 in Harlingen. Virginia was a devoted catholic, mother, grandmother, and a very hard worker. She worked at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in McAllen for 35 years, from where she, her children, and even some of her grandchildren graduated. Virginia impacted the life of so many people, not only her family and friends, but strangers alike. She is survived by her son, Philp (Mary Alice) Oxford of Harlingen; three daughters, Jeanne Salter, Martha (Rodney) Kaase, and Mayme (Andrew) Bauer, all of Harlingen; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Mettlach, Jr. of San Antonio, TX and John Mettlach of Pharr; and a large extended family. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, March 13, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School Scholarship Fund in McAllen or to St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harlingen for the construction of the new community center. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
