EDINBURG - Fermina "Mina" Pardo Santos, 86, entered eternal rest Thursday, February 18, 2021, at her residence in Edinburg surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Dementia and Parkinson's.
She was born on July 7, 1934. Mina Santos was a life-long resident of Edinburg and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was widowed by the passing of her first husband, Vicente Torres, in 1969 and more recently, the passing of her second husband, Roberto Santos, in 2019. She is also preceded in heaven by her parents, Encarnacion and Catalina Pardo; her brother, Leocadio Pardo; and sister, Maria P. Gonsales.
Left to cherish her memory are the loves of her life, her two sons, Rene O. (Cris) Torres, and David (Ellie) Torres; five grandchildren, Robin Torres-Hendrich, Vinny Torres, David "DJ" Torres Jr., Jamie Torres-Arellano, Cathy Torres; and her four great-grandchildren, Rick James, Riley, and Reese Arellano, and David Rodrigo Torres; her siblings, Petra (Lorenzo) Salinas of Edinburg, Jose R. (Maria) Pardo of Plainview, TX, Sister Mary Pardo ODN of Temecula, CA, Tina Pardo, and Encarnacion Pardo, both of Edinburg.
Mina spent most of her childhood and adult life at the "El Tule" neighborhood in Edinburg. At the age of 2, she lost her father and grew up in a humble, loving, single-parent household. As a migrant farmworker, she learned the value of hard work and sacrifice. As a reflection of the strength of her mother, she raised two boys after being widowed at the age of 35. She raised her sons while working at Slaughter's Supermarket for many years and proudly retiring from First National Bank. As a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church, she served in the choir for over twenty years, volunteered at the parish office, and built a strong foundation in faith for her family for generations. Shortly before retirement, she married Roberto Santos, her caring and loving companion of 24 years. They enjoyed their years of retirement traveling and spending time with grandchildren. Her family will miss her deeply as an exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, tia, and friend. Through her faith, she leaves a legacy of independence, a strong work ethic, and family values. The Torres family is grateful for Irma Ruiz, her loving and compassionate caregiver of three years. A special thanks to Dr. Richard Steel and SJ Hospice for their commitment to her care.
Mina's family members will serve as pallbearers: Frank Pardo, Paul Gonsales, Rick Salinas, Encarnacion Pardo, Ron Esquivel, and Joe Torres Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.
