Our beloved sister, Margaret Parras, 75, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2022 at Avalon Memory Care surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born on December 6, 1946, in Edinburg, Texas to Francisco Sr. and Adela Parras. She was a dedicated daughter, loving sister, aunt and friend. She graduated from Edinburg High School in 1966. She received a Bachelor of Education degree followed by a Masters degree in Counseling from Pan American College. Her education career started at Stephen F. Austin Elementary School followed by Edinburg North High School and Economedes High School. She retired after 39 years of teaching with the Edinburg School District.
As a first generation graduate, she influenced and inspired the importance of education to her numerous nieces and nephews. Although she never had children of her own, she was considered as a second mother to all of them. She enjoyed any opportunity to socialize with her family and friends. She lived her life in the same home where she grew up, which was the center of most of our family gatherings. She carried on the tradition of hosting Christmas with special gifts from Santa. Eating out, shopping, traveling with friends were among her favorite activities, one could call them "hobbies." Margaret was a devout Catholic all of her life. It was through her faith and prayer that she was able to develop her fortitude to fight a fifteen year battle with cancer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Sr. and Adela Parras; three brothers, Leonel R., Larry and Sgt. Victor G. Parras.
Margarita is survived by her four sisters, Elva P. Vela (Jesus †), Emma Salinas (Johnny †), Teresa Pena (Eleazar †), and Lupita P. Galvan(Ernesto †), two brothers Frank Parras Jr. (Eloisa), and Luis A. Parras (Dr. Mona Parras); three sisters in law, Carmen, Elena, and Candy Parras.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. rosary Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg.
