JOSE “TULES” GERTRUDIS PARTIDA

EDINBURG – Jose “Tules” Gertrudis Partida, 91, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at LifeCare Hospital in McAllen.

Tules was born in Dr. Arroyo, N.L. Mexico, to Cosme Partida and Juanita Lumbreras Morales, November 15, 1917. He came to live in Edinburg with his parents when he was only 9 months old. His Children will always remember him as a strong, hard-working man who survived several serious illnesses and never complained of pain or tiredness until the end. He taught his children the value of hard, honest work, and the value of getting a good education. He always regretted having gone to school only up to the 7th grade because he had been put to work to help his parents. Tules worked as a trucker and crew leader with Edinburg Citrus Association for 45 years and as a migrant worker until he became disabled. Tules was immensely wealthy in strength and spirit and in the discipline and work ethic that he passed on to all his children. The legacy he left was the respect for honest work that he always preached to his children. Dad, we will remember your beautiful eyes, your peaceful smile of the months before leaving us, and all the good things that you taught us. You told us you were right with our Lord and you were ready to rest.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cosme and Juanita Partida; a brother, Hilario Partida.

Tules is survived by his wife of 70 years, Adela Cantu Martinez Partida of Edinburg; six sons, Guadalupe (Hilda) Partida and Armando (Lupita) Partida both of Edinburg, Jose Gertrudis (Diana) Partida Jr. of McAllen, Efrain (Debra) Partida of Alabama, Judge Juan R. (Felicia) Partida of Palmhurst, and Richard Partida of South Bend, Indiana; three daughters, Eulalia Partida, San Juanita (David) Reyes and Olivia (Ricardo) Fernandez, all of Edinburg; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Julian (Alma) Partida of Edinburg; and a sister, Juanita Gomez of Defiance, Ohio.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, April 24, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 at Edinburg English Seventh Day Adventist Church, 602 W. Wisconsin Road in Edinburg, Texas 78539.
