R.I. "Nacho" Pecina Sr.

R.I. "NACHO" PECINA, SR.

SAN JUAN - R.I. "Nacho" Pecina, Sr., 77, died, September 4, 2010, at Grand Terrace Rehabilitation and Health Care.

Mr. Pecina was born in San Juan where he lived all of his life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Pecina was owner of Nacho's Barber Shop in Edinburg in the 60's and owner of R. I. Pecina and Associates, a real estate firm in McAllen, which he operated until his retirement in 2005. He was the first Hispanic appointed by Governor Preston Smith to the Board of Barber Examiners. He was a member of the San Juan Lions Club, Woodmen of the World, Kiwanas and Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Pharr. He organized and Founded the RGV Men's Hairstyling Association in the late 1960's. Mr. Pecina was a longtime member of the Greater McAllen Board of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, and Texas Association of Realtors. He loved music, especially boleros and lots of the oldies.
Mr. Pecina liked to work out, swim, and had a great sense of humor. He had a new joke everytime he saw you.

The Pecina family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Grand Terrace Rehabilitation and Health Care in McAllen for all the care and patience that was given to Mr. Pecina.

Mr. Pecina is survived by his wife, Lala Pecina, of San Juan; a son, R.I. "Nacho" (Sonia) Pecina, Jr., of Mission; four daughters, Mary Lou Cavazos, of Mission, Sandra (Richard) Cardenas, of Brownsville, Jeannie (Peter) Rodriguez and Mytla (Fred) Sandoval,both of Pharr; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Faustina Mancilla Martinez, of Dallas, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 pm rosary, today, Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by Amerian Legion Post 93 of Mission.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
