MARIA TERESA “TERE” PENA
EDINBURG – Maria Teresa “Tere” Pena, 74, beloved mother and grandmother, rejoined her daughter, Genoveva on February 5th.
Poverty and circumstances prevented Tere from obtaining an education, but her legacy to her children was encouraging them to pursue their educational dreams. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who worked tirelessly to give her children the education she never had. Her grandchildren and “adopted” grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she spent her free time baking and crocheting for everyone.
She is preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Genoveva Pena.
Mrs. Pena is survived by her husband, Roberto Pena Sr.; a son, Robert (Denise) Pena Jr. of Edinburg; three daughters, Anabelle (Clark) Covey of Lewisville, Texas, Norma Hilda (Oscar) Villarreal, Nelda Iris (Luis Alberto) Landeros, both of Edinburg; her dear grandchildren, Steven, Anthony, Joseph, Elizabeth, Joshua and Josiah. She is also survived by three stepbrothers and three stepsisters.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be setting up a scholarship fund in order to help others achieve their educational dreams.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
