Otila G. Pena

DELMITA – Otila G. Pena, 95, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugenio Pena, Jr.; a son, Alfredo Pena; and a grandson, Robert Pena, Jr.
Otila was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She lived a simple life, was humble and a very faithful servant to our Lord, she served with a heart of gold. Her love for her family was unconditional. Otila was a woman of character, integrity, kindness, honesty and very loyal to her loving husband. She became vivacious when she heard country music on the radio, especially songs by George Strait. Otila loved her beautiful garden that she attended to every day, and her cats were always close by her side. Her favorite bird was the red cardinal, and on occasion, when a cardinal visited her garden, she felt it was her husband from heaven coming to see her.
Mrs. Otila G. Pena is survived by four sons, Eugenio (Delta) Pena, III. Of Houston, Jesus (Lolly) Pena of Edinburg, Robert (Minnie) Pena of Delmita, Rick (Naomi) Pena of Pasadena; six daughters, Rosa L. Moreno of Houston, Yolanda (Nasim) Malik of Richmond, Diana (Johnny) Maldonado Wilson, Sylvia (Larry) Cinco, both of Houston, Gracie (Joe) Falcon of Pearland, Cynthia (Mark) Haubert of Tomball; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a daughter-in-law, Elma R. Pena of Houston.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m., rosary, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
The Pena family offers sincere gratitude to Father Rene Angel, Father Joaquin Zermeno and Deacon Rosvel Pruneda. Thanks to all the staff at Amara Hospice for all their support and help; Legends of Mary from St. Joseph Catholic Church.
