PHARR – Petra Hernandez, 79, died Monday, April 29, 2024, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan De Dios Garza, and Guadalupe Gonzalez; a brother, Joel Garza; two nephews, Michael Garza, and Eliazar Garza; a niece, Cindy Garza; a great-nephew, Robert Gene Garza.
Mrs. Hernandez is survived by her husband, Alfredo Hernandez Sr.; four children, Angelita (Jose Luis) Gutierrez, Alfredo (Maria Rachel) Hernandez Jr., Juan Antonio (Josie) Hernandez, Jessica (Alfredo) Castillo; nine grandchildren, Joseph Anthony Gutierrez, Christopher James Gutierrez, Jacob Luis Gutierrez, Randy Joaquin Gutierrez, Manuel Castillo, Enrique Castillo, Evan Hernandez, Franchesca Christina (Eduardo) Perez, and Jose Jesus (Abby) Gutierrez; one great-grandchild, Stone Edison Perez; eight siblings, Olga (+Francisco) Garcia, Esteban (Amalia) Garza, Maria Elena (+Victor) Del Monte, Polonio Garza, Juan (Aida) Garza Jr., Juanita (George) Bennett, Dora (Mark) Schaeffer, and Gracie Garcia.
In our hearts, our beloved mother shared a special bond with our honorary brother, Rigo Rivera, whose unwavering support meant the world to her. As we reflect on her remarkable life, we're deeply moved by the profound impact she had on all who knew her. In her final moments, she found solace in Rigo's presence, his steadfast companionship was a source of comfort during her time in the hospital. Brother, your dedication touched her deeply, and we are forever grateful for the love and care you showed her.Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan. Funeral service will take place the following day, at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan is in charge of arrangements.
