MANUEL JOEL PORRAS SR.
EDINBURG – Manuel Joel Porras, 68, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. He was born on January 28, 1941 to Medardo and Celia M. Porras in Edinburg.
Joel was a lifelong rancher in San Manuel, TX. It was here where he felt truly at peace. In his younger days, he would be at the ranch as the sun came up until the sun set. There was noting more that he loved than mending fences, tending to his cattle and cooking-out on his ranch with his brothers and his “Primos”.
Joel was friendly and eager to help anyone. He always had a joke or witty comment when he greeted his friends, family and especially his brothers and sister, which was followed by his boisterous laugh. He will be deeply missed by all whose live he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Medardo and Celia Porras and his sister, Maria Celia Perez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Ernestina Porras of Edinburg; two sons, Manuel Joel Porras Jr. of Edinburg and Martin (Mirtilina) of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Rebecca (Rene) Jimenez of Weslaco and Belinda Rachel Porras of Edinburg; He is also survived by the apples of his eye his three grandchildren, Marcos Joel, Matteo Jude, and Micaela Jayn Porras all of Austin, Texas; three brothers, Medardo Porras Jr., Martin Porras and Adan Porras all of Edinburg.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, today, February 12, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Pallbearers will be Saul Porras, Robert Perez, Domingo Porras, Ricky Porras Jr., Medardo Porras III, Danny Perez, Martin Porras Jr. and Javier Porras.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
