Guadalupe V. Prado

December 12, 1920 — February 3, 2014

GUADALUPE V. PRADO PHARR/SAN JUAN - Guadalupe V. Prado, better known as "Lupita", 93, was called to be in the presence of the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2014. She was born in Los Angeles, California on December 12, 1920 (Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe) to Paula Cantu and Francisco Villarreal. She grew up in her beloved Los Angeles until her family moved to San Juan, Texas where she grew up with her four brothers and beloved baby sister. Lupita was a 1938 graduate of P-SJ-A and attended McAllen Business College. In 1945 she married Rogelio Prado. Lupita worked for Sears in McAllen for 34 years and was active in many organizations, including Pharr Garden Club, McAllen Credit Women, and St. Vincent de Paul. She was an excellent seamstress who meticulously made not only home décor, but also many crafts and clothes that to this day are legendary. She was also known for her cooking, delighting her family with their requests. All of your family and friends will remember you as a sweet, kind, wonderful angel with a great spiritual strength. We were blessed with your company for 93 years. Thank you for the unconditional love you gave us. We celebrate your life and your death, accepting God's will and knowing that now you are with your loved ones in eternal life. Lupita is preceded in death by her parents, Paula and Francisco Villarreal; her husband, Rogelio Prado; brothers, Alonzo, Napoleon, and Ruben; and a sister, Graciela. We who are left behind, your daughter, Sylvia P. Sandoval; sons, Rogelio (Alma) Prado Jr., and Roel (Mary) Prado; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins, will carry your legacy of kindness, love and faith. The family would like to thank Dr. Alvardo Giraldo for his care over the years; the staff of IPH Hospice care, VIP services, and her care providers, Hortencia, Gloria, Griselda Soria and Maria Torres, for their compassion and caring. Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with family from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, February 5, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral mass will commence at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
