FRANK CHRIST PUNG ALAMO, TX - Frank Christ Pung, 85, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at McAllen Heart Hospital. Mr. Pung was born in Springhill, Minnesota on October 1, 1927 where he grew up on a dairy farm. Frank joined the Army after high school and spent 24 years serving his country. He retired from the Army September 1, 1972 and has been a resident of Alamo since 1982. Frank was lifetime member of VFW and American Legion Post 101 in Melrose, Minnesota. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo, TX for 30 years. Frank is preceded in death by his father, Frank X Pung; mother, Margret Pung; and brother, Ignatius Pung. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ida Pung of Alamo; five children, Beverly Gerard of Amarillo,TX, Gary Pung of Plain Dealing, LA, Mary Jane McKendry of Pittsboro, NC, Janine Pung of Chanhassen, MN, and Cheryle Mersy of Hollywood, FL; eight grandchildren, Roland Oelschlager of Karben, Germany, Dietrich Oelschlager of Roanoke, VA, Eric Gerard of Queens, NY, Paul Gerard of Denton, TX, Elizabeth Pearson of Wills Point, TX, Garrick Pung of Englewood, CO, John Frovold of Big Lake, MN, and Matthew Bonner of Hollywood, FL; two great-grandchildren, Peter Oelschlager of Karben, Germany and Camryn Pearson of Wills Point, TX. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, January 17, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan, TX. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo, TX. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, TX. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan, TX.
