Chuy Ramirez

Chuy Ramirez, 79, entered eternal rest Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.
Born in Mission, he had lived in Edinburg all of his life. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a member of the ACTS group. Chuy also served in the United States National Guard and retired from AT&T and South Texas College where he was known as “the telephone man”. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. Lately his passion for mentoring led him to Trail Life, an organization that teaches boys the value of Christianity while working together in an outdoor setting. He was one of the very first volunteers in the entire South Texas region.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Romana Ramirez.
Mr. Ramirez is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maria Elia Ramirez; three children, Maricarmen Ramirez, JJ (Sofie) Ramirez, Marco (Diane) Ramirez; four grandchildren, Joaquin, Rachel, Lanie, Gail; along with nieces, nephews, godchildren, various cousins, and their families along with his Trail Life family.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10am Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
The Ramirez family would like to thank Dr. Guillermo Lazo at Texas Oncology and Dr. Matthew Peterson and Dr. Behyar Zoghi along with the doctors, nurses and staff on the oncology floor at Methodist Hospital of San Antonio for all their compassion and care during our father’s medical care.
