Margaret "Maggie" T. Resendez, 85, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 24, 2022, at McAllen Medical Center.
Maggie graduated from La Joya High School in 1952 when she was only 16 years of age. She was class President, a band member, a member of FHA, Glee Club and Pep Squad. She continued her education at Pan American University, where she got a degree in Education in 1955. Maggie was a schoolteacher for over 35 years when she retired; her career began in Hargill, TX and ended in Pharr, TX. She loved the Lord and was a devout Christian and active in her church, St. Margaret Mary for over 55 years. There she was a lector for 12 years, member of the choir, eucharistic minister, and a CCD teacher for over 25 years. She was the sponsor for the altar boys/girls for numerous years. Maggie, together with her husband Joe, were sponsors for "Engaged Couples Training," she was also part of the Festival Committee for seven years. Later she was part of the Diocesan choir for ten years. Aside from dedicating her life to the Lord, she was also very devoted to raising her children. She loved us all so fiercely and nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Maggie will surely be missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Resendez Sr.; parents, James Rowland and Margarita Flores; three brothers, Ruben (Mellie) Flores, Roberto Flores, Romeo (Nina) Flores; and two sisters Alma (Charlie) Brandenburg and Rosie (Roosevelt) Valdez.
She is survived by her three children, Dina (Russell) Roach, Joe (Sarah) Resendez Jr., Javier K. Resendez; seven grandchildren, Andrea (Chris) Allison, Brenda, Austin, Ethan Roach, James, Lyra, and Micah Resendez; one great-grandchild Noah Allison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Friday, July 1, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
